Chains That Bind
Chains That Bind is made from scrap sheet metal, bolts, nails, rebar, and anything else I could find. This piece represents modern man and his inability to overcome anything on his own. The original motivation for creating this piece was to see if I could actually make a larger than life sized hand. I had been making sculptures for about a year and had some success with my small life sized hands. I overheard someone talking about one of them, and they claimed that hands were easy to make but large hands are very difficult. Hearing this, I had to try. Later on I found out by talking with some real artists how difficult hands are to make. This is still one of my favorite pieces that I have made to date.
